About

Nestled on the banks of the Barwon River at Birregurra, on a working family farm, we think Yalloak House was built around 1910. It was built by the Napthine family shortly after they purchased the land from the subdivision of the Ripplevale Estate. The McDonald family purchased the farm and home in 1921, and continue to farm the property today.

Ged, Emily and their children are the current custodians, and in 2019 embarked on a project to restore the home, which had fallen into a state of some disrepair. The house was fully restumped, rotten weatherboards replaced and rotten verandahs replaced and repaired. Verandah posts were re-skirted where they were rotten at the bases. The interior floorboards were repaired and sanded, and the interior was painted. We hope to complete the exterior paintwork and repair the old weatherboard sheds in the near future. The garden has begun to be renewed and we look forward to doing further work on this over the course of the seasons ahead.

Nowadays, Yalloak is offered as a farmstay, and we love welcoming people to our farmhouse.
